Bundespolizei App
METHODS
User Interview, Wireframing Prototyping.

GOAL
I designed the BPOL app, developed by Orca Affairs, for young people aspiring to join the German Federal Police. The app provides a clear, structured guide to the job and application process, while also offering training tools to help candidates prepare for both the physical and mental entrance exams.

CHALLENGES
Working with a government organization was a unique experience. BPOL has strict branding and style guidelines, which I had to follow closely while designing the app.
The app is German-only, reflecting its target audience of high school students. At the time, I didn’t speak German yet, which created some challenges. Here’s how I handled them:
- German words can be long, which makes tabs and menus tricky. I simplified labels where possible, limited the bottom navigation to three items, and slightly reduced font size for better fit without sacrificing readability.
- To keep screens clear and distinguishable, I duplicated key text in English and used a detailed bilingual flow map.
- A native-speaking colleague helped with UX text, naming, and translating user feedback during interviews.

RESULT
The app was designed by me, implemented by Orca Affairs, and is now used by people who are training to join Bundespolizei. The app has a few thousand downloads, a 4.8 rating, and great reviews on App Store and Play Market.
